Granite City man charged with Cottage Hills home invasion

EDWARDSVILLE — A Granite City man was charged Thursday in a July 14 home invasion in Cottage Hills, one of several violence-related indictments issued by a Madison County grand jury.

Andrew E. Phillips, 39, of Granite City, was charged Aug. 11 with trespassing, a Class X felony.

The case was originally brought on July 22 by the Madison County Sheriff’s Department.

According to court documents, on July 21, Phillips entered a home armed with a handgun in Cottage Hills, knowing the residents were in their homes. He allegedly threatened a couple, punched a woman in the face and pushed her onto a sofa, and ordered her to leave the residence before firing his gun in the direction of the house.

In an unrelated case, two men have been charged with shooting into an occupied building on the 200 block of Madison Avenue in Alton on two separate occasions.

Tavarious T. White, 19, of Alton, and Glenn K. Wolfe, 18, of Lebanon, Ill., were each charged with two counts of aggravated discharge with a firearm, a class felony 1.

The cases were originally presented by the Alton Police Department.

According to court documents, on July 8 and 12, the two allegedly fired shots at an occupied building in the 200 block of Madison Avenue.

Additionally, an 88-year-old Wood River man was charged after he allegedly deliberately hit another person with his vehicle.

Alfred V. Traub, 88, was charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony, and non-arrest after having an accident resulting in bodily injury or death, a Class 4 felony.

The case was originally presented by the Wood River Police Department.

According to court documents and police statements, on July 18, Traub and another man were said to have been near the intersection of Second Street and Carringer Place in Wood River when they argued.

Traub deliberately hit the victim with his 1994 Oldsmobile, causing minor injuries, police say. Traub also failed to arrest or report the incident to police.
